Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind

MP for Kensington

The fight against floods

15 January 2008

Malcolm Rifkind and Thames Water agree deal

A rare piece of good news for the residents of Napier road who, last summer, suffered terrible flooding as a result of overflowing drains.

Following the floods, Malcolm Rifkind convened a meeting with the Chief Executive of Thames Water. It was agreed that a new flood-prevention scheme would be developed around Napier Road. The residents of Napier Road and the surrounding area were delighted to discover that they will be better protected from flooding in the future.

Thames Water also told Malcolm that they are committed to spending £238 million throughout London between now and 2010, with extensive improvements planned for the Norlands Square and Holland Road area.

For any constituents wishing to question Thames Water directly there will be an opportunity to do so on Wednesday 30th of January at a special Council meeting. The meeting will take place between 6.30pm and 8.30pm in the Small Hall, Kensington Town Hall, Hornton St.
